Watch out! The Super Mario Go Kart Park is open! Great action in this stunning Super NES classic. The slogan says it all: Where racing becomes an adventure!
SMK (Super Mario Kart) is a two-player racing game, that almost created a whole new game type, which many inferior games have been based upon (such as the bad and ugly Crash Team Racing). It supports battery-backed memory to save track times.
Graphics [7/10]:
Clean and functional graphics make up SMK. The graphics are amazing in areas (such as the 3D tracks, which use a chip in the cart,) but the characters look a bit grotty. The graphics are good, but not great.
Music and Sound [7/10]:
This game features good Mario-mix styles, which are well used throughout the game. The music choice matches the track. As for sound, it is good and well synchronized with actions happening.
Game Play [9/10]:
I have to give this 9/10 or 10/10, but nothings perfect so it's nine. The game play consists of a normal racing game with objects blocking you way, but with weapons that cause you to spin and go wrong. Where this differs from other games is the fact that in this game you do not have an energy meter and you cannot die. You can spin, get shrunk, and lose coins, but you cannot die. In this game you collect coins to help you go faster and run over question mark blocks to get items to help you or hinder you opponents.
A great and still unique aspect is Battle Mode, where you must pop your opponents balloons attached to their car. This is a great mode and makes SMK worth the money just for this.
Challenge and Replay [8/10]:
There are 3 cups each with 5 different tracks. Add to this Special Cup, Time Trial and Battle Mode and you get a game which almost never runs out.
Conclusion/Overall [9/10]:
This game would be nothing (or just another racing game) if it did not have its unique concepts and Battle Mode. This is one game you can buy and never regret.
